COVID-19 AND OTHER PANDEMIC EVENTS PRESENT WASTE DISPOSAL CHALLENGES FOR HOSPITALS DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORIES, PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURERS AND OTHERS

In the event of an outbreak of any pandemics, the sudden increase in the volume of highly contagious bio-medical waste could present challenges for hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Today the majority of healthcare facilities use haulers to transport regulated medical waste to an off-site treatment facility. This process requires the generating facility to store contaminated waste on their premises while awaiting the next pick-up. When the waste is ultimately transported off-site for processing it must be transported through the community.

The facility staff and surrounding neighborhood will be rightly concerned about how the waste associated with these highly publicized diseases is managed and will doubtless prefer it to be treated immediately rather than stored for future transport and treatment.

In order to mitigate the risks associated with storage and transportation, many healthcare providers are actively pursuing a fail-safe on-site technology that can immediately sterilize and destroy all dangerous pathogens and viruses such as COVID-19, Ebola, Zika, TB, Polio and others while avoiding further risk to the general public.

"The traditional methods of hauling and disposing of medical waste off-site present some major risks for hospitals and the general public," states Don Millard, CEO of Atlanta-based Red Bag Solutions, a provider of on-site bio-hazardous waste disposal equipment and services, "Red Bag Solutions' SSM system is designed to process all biological and medical waste on-site, including any material infected by Zika, Ebola, or any other bacterial or viral pathogen. The process renders waste unrecognizable and ensures that it is completely sterilized."

"We are very cognizant of the risks posed by Zika, Ebola and other highly infectious pathogens and the challenges of disposing of medical waste contaminated by them," said Danny Moore, Director of Estates and Facilities at Bermuda Hospital Board, Bermuda. "As an island, we are far more vulnerable to a pandemic situation; however, by using Red Bag Solution's Steam Sterilization and Maceration process, we believe our institution is better prepared for a crisis of this sort."

About Red Bag Solutions - Red Bag Solutions offers an onsite technology that guarantees sterilization of Biohazardous and Regulated Medical Waste. The RBS Steam Sterilization and Maceration (SSM) technology utilizes steam, pressure, high temperature and grinding to kill any pathogens in the waste - guaranteed!

For over 20 years SSM technology has been installed in institutions across America as well as several international locations processing infectious medical waste in a cost effective, environmentally friendly manner with full consideration to sustainability and the reduction of greenhouse gases.
